I am Annie Croner of wholeassistant.com. And on this season of the Whole Assistant Show, I've been breaking down myths that are keeping us from living our best lives and having the careers we love.
In today's episode, I'm sharing with you the myth of confusion and how to get out of confusion and stay in action. So what is confusion exactly? Confusion is an emotion designed to take us out of action and to protect us in some way. So generally speaking, there's some underlying fear whenever we're confused. Fear of rejection, maybe a fear of doing something wrong or not getting it right, or maybe it's the first time we're doing something, so our brain is telling us we need to be confused about it so that we don't take action and screw it up. So this is how our brain protects us because it wants to protect us from making a mistake, and so much rather keep us in inaction and keep us confused.
Now I want to hear from you. What fear generally keeps your brain in a state of confusion? Please leave a comment below. The question then becomes, how do we get out of confusion and into action? The first step is to just decide you're no longer going to be confused. You're going to be resourceful and you're going to figure it out. So when you notice your brain start to go down the path of, "I don't know what to do next, or I'm so confused, or this is so confusing," reel it in. Decide that you're going to be resourceful and that you're going to take action to figure it out.
The second piece of advice I have for you is to deal with the underlying issue. The perfectionism or fear that is holding you back, that's what really needs to be dealt with here. So ask yourself why it is you're in confusion, and then deal with the core issue. Now, the last piece of advice I have for you is to just take action. Take that first step, and the next step will appear, or you'll figure out the next step once you get there. So those are my three tips for staying out of confusion and into action. Now you know how to stay out of confusion. It's simple, but not always easy. Now I want to hear from you. What is your plan for staying out of confusion and staying in action?
