Hey guys, I'm Annie of WholeAssistant.com, and today is ... we're in March already. I can't even believe it. I'm really excited about that because I am so over the cold. We've got between seven and 10 inches of snow on the ground here in Denver, Colorado, and I'm just ready for spring, and spring starts on March 20th. I just want to announce to everybody that I'll be doing my first ever Game of Admins challenge. It's going to be called Game of Admins: Organization is Coming. My husband and I are big Game of Thrones fans, so doing this challenge just seemed like the right thing to do in preparation for the final season of Game of Thrones, and also just for fun. This is going to be a fun challenge. Please stay tuned for more details on that. Registration will be open a week from yesterday, so on March 11th, so yeah.

In preparation for that, I'm going to be talking today about what you can do to create a space that you actually want to be in at work. The first thing is to see things through new eyes. So take a step back, take a new perspective, and really pay attention to your workspace. You can question, or I encourage you to question, everything. Is this serving me? Is there a way to make this space more functional? Does this really belong here? I know for me, if a pile sits on my desk for too long, it just looks like the rest of the landscape. We just really want to take a new perspective and take a step back and actually look at our space, and take a fresh perspective.

Then, make a list of what would make your space more appealing. For me, it's pretty things. I know, let's see if I've got ... I've got a pretty candle right here. This is my home office, but for my work office, I want a S'well water bottle, and I've got one already picked out. I currently have a Sprouts water bottle similar to this one sitting on my desk, but it's not the most pretty. On my birthday list for this year, actually I may just buy it for myself, is a S'well water bottle, because they're pretty, and it would make me happy, and make my space show more of my personality. That is the next thing you can do.

Then, you want to also clean the visible space and rework it for optimization. Is everything you need within arms reach? Feel free to experiment, feel free to replace things or move things around on your desk. These rules that I'm giving you will serve you even if you are just at a desk in an open office space. Really try and get a new perspective on your workspace, and what will make you happy, and what will make it more functional. Then go through your drawers, clean out all those things that you save because you might use them. If you haven't used them by now, you likely won't. Feel free to give things to other coworkers or to donate them if it's appropriate.

Then, just develop a habit of tidying your space before you leave the office. I know we can all just be in go mode. I'm putting out fires all day long, and the last thing we want to do at the end of the day is to take a few minutes to tidy our space. But I found for myself, especially that when I take that few minutes, that two or three minutes or five minutes or however long it takes, to actually spruce up my physical space, that the next day I feel much more energized walking into that space instead of walking into a heap of yesterday's papers and junk, essentially, or things that were getting done but weren't quite finished. Yeah, get in the habit of tidying up your space at the end of your workday.

Those are my tips for really getting you trying to get you to think outside the box with regards to your workspace. Yeah, stay tuned for more info on Game of Admins: Organization is Coming.
